Eye Lasik Surgery İstanbul

LASIK (Laser-Assisted In Situ Keratomileusis) surgery is a popular and widely performed elective procedure aimed at correcting refractive errors such as nearsightedness (myopia), farsightedness (hyperopia), and astigmatism. It involves using a laser to reshape the cornea, the clear front part of the eye, to improve vision without the need for glasses or contact lenses.

Here’s an overview of the LASIK procedure:

  1. Pre-operative Evaluation: Before undergoing LASIK surgery, patients undergo a comprehensive eye examination and consultation with an ophthalmologist to determine their suitability for the procedure. This evaluation includes assessing the patient’s refractive error, corneal thickness, eye health, and overall eye anatomy. Patients with certain eye conditions or medical histories may not be suitable candidates for LASIK.

  2. Procedure Planning: Based on the pre-operative evaluation, the ophthalmologist creates a personalized treatment plan for the LASIK procedure. This plan includes determining the amount of corneal tissue to be removed and calculating the precise laser ablation pattern needed to correct the patient’s refractive error.

  3. Surgical Procedure: LASIK surgery is typically performed on an outpatient basis and takes about 15 minutes per eye. The procedure is usually painless and is performed under local anesthesia (numbing eye drops). During LASIK surgery, the surgeon creates a thin flap in the outer layer of the cornea using a specialized cutting tool or laser. The flap is then lifted, and a computer-guided excimer laser is used to reshape the underlying corneal tissue to the desired curvature. Once the cornea has been reshaped, the flap is repositioned and left to heal naturally without the need for sutures.

  4. Recovery: After LASIK surgery, patients may experience some temporary discomfort, dryness, or blurred vision, which usually improves within a few days. Patients are typically advised to rest for a day or two after surgery and to avoid strenuous activities, rubbing their eyes, or getting water in their eyes during the initial recovery period. Most patients can resume normal activities, including driving and working, within a few days to weeks after LASIK surgery.

  5. Results: The full effects of LASIK surgery are typically evident within a few days to weeks after the procedure, once the eyes have healed and stabilized. Many patients experience significantly improved vision and reduced dependence on glasses or contact lenses following LASIK surgery. However, some patients may still require glasses or contact lenses for certain activities or may experience minor residual refractive errors that can be corrected with enhancements or additional procedures.

LASIK surgery is generally considered safe and effective for the treatment of refractive errors when performed by a qualified and experienced ophthalmologist using modern laser technology. However, as with any surgical procedure, there are potential risks and complications, such as dry eyes, glare, halos, undercorrection, overcorrection, or flap complications, which should be discussed with the surgeon before undergoing LASIK surgery. Additionally, not everyone is a suitable candidate for LASIK, and alternative treatment options may be recommended for individuals with certain eye conditions or medical histories.
